Has Adams Played The Market Well ?

It is a well known fact that Micky Adams has been the busiest manager in the Premiership this close season but has he got bargains ?. Virtually all the players he has bought have been free transfers so it is safe to say that most of the budget has been used on wages.

With the release of 11 players at the end of last season it was obvious that a quantity of players would have to be brought in. To maintain your Premiership status you must have strength in depth. Its relatively easy however to pick up players on free transfers, especially with the market in its depressed state.

City had the best defence in the first division last season yet Adams has decided to add further depth to it. The signing of both Howey and Thatcher will greatly improve what was allready a fairly strong defence. Many managers believe you should build from the back and clearly Micky is one of these managers.

The midfield has also been tinkered with, the addition of Gillespie on the wing should give us the pace and accurate crossing our strikers will demand. the addition of Frenchman Nallis also looks a good move, by most reports he had a good game at Kidderminster last night and fans are allready hailing him the new Savage. Early days maybe but not a bad player to be compared too.

Now we come to the strikers, an area where many believed we desperately needed improving. So far the only addition to the attack is the experienced Les Ferdinand, a player similar in many ways to Deane. With the lively Dickov likely to benefit from the crosses from Gillespie it may well prove a shrewd move by Micky to employ the services of Les to pick up any pieces that are left by the oppositions defenders. Les has plenty of Premiership experience and we will need every ounce of it in the coming months.

Overall I think Micky has done well on his limited budget, of course only time will tell but we look forward to the new season with optimism. The belief that Micky, one of the most talented young managers in the country, can get City to perform week in, week out.
